Quality of Service

Return to Products & Services

US Signal is now offering Quality of Service (QoS) with Dedicated Internet Access, MPLS VPN or Virtual Ethernet services. QoS can improve the performance of your connection by prioritizing timing-sensitive applications like voice and video over less urgent web and email traffic. Combining the industry’s most aggressive Service Level Agreement with US Signal QoS enables your Internet, MPLS VPN or Virtual Ethernet connection with the performance that your business requires.

US Signal QoS contains the following features:

  • Flexible configurations to meet varying business demands.
  • Available at Layer 2 or Layer 3.
  • One voice class utilizing Low Latency Queuing and 3 video and data classes utilizing Class-Based Weighted Fair Queuing.
  • Industry leading Service Level Agreement with aggressive latency and packet loss commitments as well as a jitter guarantee.

What is QoS?

In an IP network, QoS classifies IP packets according to their use so that service objectives for different types of traffic can be met.

Why would I need QoS?

If you are running timing-sensitive applications, such as, voice or video over IP, QoS would guarantee the best service possible by prioritizing this traffic over less sensitive web and email traffic.

How does QoS work?

US Signal will prioritize traffic across its network based on the traffic type indicated in the Type of Service or the Differentiated Services Code Point byte of each packet header. The packet is assigned a traffic class and is forwarded through the US Signal core IP network based on the prioritization instructions for that class.
